Super Soil Cannabis Seed Run: 2026 at Stony Oasis Farms

Growing Huge Cannabis Plants in a Dryland Hugelkultur Planting Bed

Man-o-man I have not been disappointed in this grow up at Stony Oasis! These plants in this super soil cannabis seed run continue to impress!
These plants are huge now…the tallest being about 9-10 feet. And, are beginning their pre-flower stretch. All 3 males are going into full flower so there will not be an un-pollinated flower anywhere.
I expect them to get at least a couple feet taller, and actually even bushier.
This is the tallest plant of the bunch in the image…a Sugar Haze plant. The T-post you see is about 5 feet tall…so this plant is at least 9 feet now…with a month and a half left to go up in that country.
I am especially impressed with how these plants have bushed out…that was completely unexpected! I topped all these plants just once, and expected tall Christmas tree type of plants that were growing for height more then circumference. But, that has not been the case…as soon as they got the weather to take advantage of all those nutrients in the super soil they exploded with growth…both up, and out.
I have a ‘How Tall Will They Get’ contest going on…so be sure to give your best guess to win free cannabis seeds.
Choosing Male Cannabis Plants for Breeding
This grow is a F1 seed grow…all these plants will be fully seeded with big dark mature seeds….I hope! Thing is some strains…like the Black Tiger strain is somewhat long winded, and has a bit of trouble maturing fulling in the time they have to mature before first frost. I may try to cover her to give her more time if I need to…we will see.
Now back to choosing males.
This is kinda a weird grow…In that I ended up having 3 plants of the BadAss BB’s strain, and all 3 were males?? The chance of that is slim at best. So I look at all the males, and was deciding if I should choose just one, or keep more then one.
So here are the strains I have up there…
Males…
- BadAss BB’s
Females…
- D’Qar
- Tahoe OG
- Kona Gold
- Sugar Haze
- Kick Ass White OG
- Black Tiger
- The Black
So 7 of my cultivars are in this grow, and truthfully now that the runt is no longer a runt…all the plants look fantastic! I do look for genetically weak plants and cull them if I think they are not passing on the traits that I want them to…but I am seeing none of that in this grow…all big beautiful vigorous plants that are passing on desirable traits.
Lets take a look at the males that will do the deed…
And number 2 male…
And, number 3…
Still Learning After Growing Cannabis for Over 50 Years!
And I have learned from this grow….50 years of growing our favorite plant and still learning…don’t you love it?
This grow has impressed me to the point I am planning on putting in a big vegetable garden this next spring and I am planning on a hugelkultur planting bed for all my plants. I want to make about 20 of them, all about 40 feet long, a drip line going down each one, and simply plant all the veggies in a row utilizing the drip irrigation. Will be a clean and simply garden…very easy to water, and keep down the weeds.
Another thing I have seen in this grow is plants this big need water….lots of water. I get up there after a week and I can see these huge plants are thirsty. I have no automatic water going on for them, I simply flood their hugelkultur bed when I am there. Yesterday while there I flooded the entire planting bed with likley around 500+ gals of water. These plants roots go four feet down to bedrock at this point I imagine. Likely throughout the wood, and bio char that make up the bottom of the dryland hugelkultur beds.
And here are all the plants as seen yesterday 8/23/26….
Funny, in the past I cannot count the times I have looked at a grow and felt overwhelmed when it came to harvest time. I have looked at what I need to harvest and thought how will I get through all of this!
This grow will be no different! If I were growing this grow for sensimilla it would likley be a 30-40 lb harvest. Growing for seed, it will weigh much more, and even though I do not really need to trim the buds…it will be very labor intensive anyways. All the buds need to be ground up, and the seeds removed. I do have something that makes this so much faster and easier…a seed separating machine!
This machine I made can clean a gallon of seed in just a few minutes. This machine could be zeroed in to actually separate the more immature seeds as well, although I have not really tried that yet. Once I have clean seed, I generally just manually blow the immature seeds out of the mix.
Turns many hours of manually cleaning seeds into just a few minutes!
I am already planning next years garden! What I want to do is plant in a hugelkultur bed again, but this time give the plants great support (they simply grow too fast and need support) and room…room to get just as big around as they want to.
I may grow seedless we will see…If I do, I imagine I can grow some of those 10 pound monster plants one can see online every year.
What do you have growing? I would love to see! If you have some images of your grow using my seed, please share in a comment. Lets see what ya got!

Wow! Those are gorgeous plants.
I’ve seen that seed separator plans somewhere before. Seems to work pretty well.
Nice work up there in the garden.
Thanks Jim, yes the seed separator is awesome…use to take me literally days to clean lots of seed. Now I can run alot of seeds through 3 or 4 times and have nice clean seeds! Yeah, I think I have a new favorite way to grow cannabis….and plan on doing it for my regular garden as well.
