These plants are going to get BIG!

Growing Huge Cannabis Plants at Stony Oasis farms

I apologize for not being more prompt with the updates for you guys, I know many of you enjoy them….I have just been incredibly busy with everything I have going on in preparation of moving full-time to my off-grid mountain property near the Simcoe mountains of central Washington State.

This will not be a long post, but will bring you all up to date on this grow…I have been enjoying the process (that is what it is all about), and I think this will end up being a great grow.

Got my Dryland Hugelkultur cannabis bed all prepped, and planted with the cannabis plants I sprouted on 3/1/26, and grew indoors till I put them in their Hugelkultur forever home.

Here are the plants as they looked the day I headed over to plant them…

2 month old cannabis plants that will get huge...

I had to top them just once to slow them down a bit…I did not want to try to haul trees up to my off-grid property. I grew these plants in tall tree type of planting pots…I did this so they would not become root bound at all, and their main taproot would still be heading straight down….

Grow the plants in tree type of pots so they do not become root-bound.

Growing them in this kind of pot gives them a faster, stronger start in the ground when planted, as their roots are not impeded much by the pot….it does not make their taproot turn.

Planting the cannabis plants and watering them in...

I was happy to finally get them in the ground on about 5/15/26, and was even more happy that there was not a late frost to stunt them like last year. But sadly they just sat there and did nothing but simply survive the very cold, wet spring weather we have had for the last two weeks. Also I will add, for those of you who like straight lines and may wonder why I did not plant them that way….well lets just say I planted them where the rocks allowed me to. If I dug and hit a rock…I simply moved over a bit…no time nor energy to pick all the rocks out this year…maybe next year…

Cannabis plants struggling to grow in the cold spring weather.

When I put these plants out, I was hoping for the weather to turn warm and for them to not miss a beat….but as we all know the weather does not always cooperate. And this spring in the mountains of central Washington was no exception. The next two weeks were cold (it dropped near freezing several nites) and the days were both cold and very windy.

And just so you know I purposely did not stake, or protect them from the mountain winds which happen often. I want them to be tough, able to survive even in less than ideal conditions…I want to have strong genetics.

So what happens to a plant when it is just sitting there trying to survive till the weather turns…the top of the plant…the part you can see can literally look bad… These plants were not actively growing on top, they were getting eaten on by squirrels. It can make one wonder if they will even survive! You can see they look like they are struggling.

The plants roots is where the growth is happening in this kind of situation…and they are exploding with growth. Think about it…the plant cannot grow on top because of the inclimate weather… but in the ground conditions are perfect for growth….a stable temperature and environment primed for massive growth. Then when conditions get better weather wise…the plants is ready for explosive growth on top.

I have been growing cannabis plants out in the harsh weather for decades, and believe me I have seen it all. Last years plants were nipped hard by a late frost, and some only had a leaf or two that could still grow…they all grew and ended up 8-10 feet tall…impressive really for that environment.

And, that is what prompted this years grow…just how big can I get a cannabis plant to grow there? I have grown many plants 15 feet tall, and a few even taller….I can already tell, this year these plants are going to be impressive…you just wait and see.

Installing 20 KW of Solar at Stony Oasis Farms

My original solar array at Stony Oasis.

On a side note, I am finally nearing completion of my solar install at the farm. This will allow me to move there soon, and be completely off grid…no bills at all…except for star link….

The image is my original solar array that powers my well pump, and will be charging my solar generator for a redundant backup source of power. Look at the size of the elm tree next to it…just been there a few years!

Will I be able to live up there with just 20 KW of solar? Will the amount of panels I have installed be enough to keep my batteries full? Truthfully I am not sure, but I will move there and quickly find out.

The first array I installed there runs the well pump, but I only use half of it or 1290 watts, so the other 1290 watts I just buried wires from over to one on my connex boxes, and will be buying a 5000watt solar generator as a redundant, backup electric source for me. So if my main array goes down for any reason I can simply plug into…or have a transfer switch to utilize the solar generator without missing a thing.

Conclusion

I am planning to do alot more writing when I finally get moved up there. Leave me a comment and let me know what you think about what I am doing up at Stony Oasis Farms, and you can read more about my adventures there on my new website by the same name…Stony Oasis Farms.
