Growing Beyond Cannabis…Building a High-Desert Sanctuary For Those That Follow

Cannabis will always have a place in my garden…I of course love the plant and am all about medicinal herbs…

My rugged 80 acre property in the foothills of the Simcoe Mountains in central Washington state, that I have named Stony Oasis Farms is funded entirely through cannabis seed sales here on JCS. My SS pays the bills, but Just Cannabis Seed pays for the dream!

And I want you to know I appreciate all of you!…as each sale gets me one step closer to moving out to Stony Oasis permanently…I am very close!

Stony Oasis will be about alot more then just cannabis however. While cannabis will always be a favorite plant, I have had a lifelong love affair with all plants, and all of nature for that matter.

I am in the process of finding out what likes growing there, and which plants will struggle. And, I am coming to the conclusion that most plants will grow well there, and once I get my wallipini built then I should be able to grow everything else.

Growing More Then Cannabis at Stony Oasis

One plant that grows well there is sun flowers…

The mountain soil is a bit too acidic, but will sweeten with some time and a bit of lime thrown around. The pollinators just love the sunflowers, and they produce food…both for humans and critters.

You can also see a new plant I introduced called Amaranth…right at the start of the video. This plants seeds are edible, and the plant is prolific…the combination that I look for.

You will also see some Mullein plants…and I sell Mullein seeds right here on JCS.

I planted a few thornless blackberry plants a few years ago. And true to what I have found to be the norm…3 years later they are finally getting well established.

Planting an Orchard at Stony

I have found a deal on potted fruit trees, even though they are not very big, many are more then a year old, and some are already producing fruit! I was watering them with just a hose and flooding each one…but now that I have about 70 of them planted that is just too time consuming. So I have now installed drip irrigation to them all…

Helping Pollinators on the Farm

I have planted lots of things simply for the pollinators up there in the mountains. And, for years I have seen nothing but native pollinators…but that is changing. Honey bees are being introduced by someone near…or there is a wild hive….

I can find where these bees are coming from…as there are alot of them…which means they are close.

How would I find them?

It really is pretty simple, and I have done it on several occasions. You get a brightly colored bowl, put some sugar water in it. Mount it up where the bees are actively working the flowers.

Soon…the bees being very opportunistic…will find the sugar water, then because it is sweet enough it will trump all the nectar sources…and the bees will communicate this and before long you will have a steady line of bees…going from the bowl to their hive.

Bees generally fly about 8 feet or so high, and will make a ‘bee line’ (ever wondered where that came from?) straight to their hive. It really is very easy to watch one go, till it flies out of sight, then you go to where you last saw it and wait for the next bee. Then watch that bee till it is lost from sight and repeat.

You should easily be able to find the hive.
