Granddaddy Purple Seed Grow

I have grown out some Granddaddy Purple plants up at my property. If you are unaware of what I have going on at my remote mountain property you can check it out here… My Permaculture Food Forest.

I bought these seeds wholesale, and was unimpressed by their germination rate. I was able to get some sprouted after a few tries, and decided to give them a chance to prove themselves.

Now that I have some pretty much grown out (will have to see if they have enough time to finish their seed in that environment) I have changed my mind about the strain. They are beautiful and have some very good genetic qualities that do impress me.

The season is a bit short up there, but I think I will get some great seeds from the girls, and even though the mother plants are not very purple (although their stems certainly are.) The Father plants are both purple and I like many of you simply love those purple genetics! Check out the two father plants in the images above. Stunning father plants if you ask me!

I expect the seeds produced will display those purple genetics….time will tell.

Here is an image of the grow…

They fit right into my food forest, and the tree they are growing along side of is a sycamore. With some of the local White Oak in the background.

Below you can see both the mother plants, while never terribly impressive when one is producing seed, especially in that environment, I would like to point out some genetic pluses of this strain.

First off is the bud structure…if these were grown out as sensemillia those buds would be as big around as your arm, and the one would be just as long!

Let it be noted I did not top, nor prune these plants at all, so you can see genetically they are prone to a very large top bud, rather then the normal Christmas tree shape. This would work great for a Sea of Green grow I suspect.

I would be willing to bet the offspring of these plants will display beautiful purple flowers, as both father plants are purple, and both mother plants have purple stems. They got a whole lotta purple going on!

I will be harvesting these seeds in the next few weeks, and I will put them on sale for a bit when I do. So be sure to check back for when they will become available…I expect them to be something special.

10/9/23…Update…The Granddaddy Purple mother plants continue to mature, and the weather is being conducive as we are in the midst of a beautiful Indian summer. I found fully mature tiger striped seeds on one of the mother plants, but many immature seeds as well, so I will leave them until around first frost.

I am going add something new for those of you who take the time to read some of my writings. And that is….well free cannabis seeds of course. Here is how it will work on this post….

I have just harvested a couple strains (I have not even added them to the line up yet) and they are specifically one I am calling Lucifer’s Hammer (Durban Poison Auto X Lucifer’s Big Buddy Auto) and a faster maturing Lebanese Strain which I will keep separate from the normal fairly long season landrace Lebanese. I am going to give these two new strains as free giveaways to the first 3 people who leave a comment on this post, asking for them. This will be in addition to the normal freebies you would get in an order. You will need to put in some kind of order to get these free seeds….even if it is only a free seed order.

So if you are reading this and you would like these free seeds with your next order, just leave a comment saying…Sure Jerry, I would love to have some of these free seeds! Then go put in a quick order, and leave me a note with that order reminding me.

Another reason for this offer…you will be unofficial tester of these seeds, and I would love to have some images of the plants/buds you grow.

Ok, enough of that, back to the subject at hand…the Granddaddy Purple seed grow.

The plants have done well up there, and will finish nicely, which is always a good thing! I expect they will ripen most of their seed in the time they have left in the season.

So without farther ado, here are some images from yesterday…

I enjoy these ongoing posts throughout a grow. On reason is it shows folks a grow from start to finish, and gives an idea of what is possible.

I have brought the Granddaddy Purple grow to it’s conclusion, and I am impressed with the results!

Here is a cologe of my final photos of that grow, and I will be giving away the original seeds I bought wholesale of this strain, and will be filling orders with the new seeds from these buds. As always one must be aware that grown seedless your buds will likely be even bigger, and more impressive!

    Hi Jerry
Cool update on your permaculture project! I’m tardy on reading updates on internet here lately….too much time on tractor!

    Take care!

Well I commented earlier but I do not see it. If Im not too late I would love done of the 2 new strains. I did place an order today.

    1. Jerry says:

I will send them your way Janet. Thanks for your order, if you have the ability to run theses as testers in addition to the White Widow you are already running that would be awesome! I will send your order off today.

      1. Janet Borrego says:

There will be males.,I planted 20 white widows have 14 left and they have not shown sex yet maybe another week or 2. I can plant 24 total at once. Yes I have room. I will do 5 of each. Ty

Hi Jerry, sure I would love to try out those 2 new strains of yours, if I’m not too late. Thanks!

    Hi Jer,
I didn’t see a reply window in your Indian Summer…Elk post, so here’s my guess as to what you’re doing with the thornless blackberries:
I think you buried a stalk laterally to get it to root at the nodes, thus sending up more tillers and establishing better–I’ve seen the same
technique for tomatoes which was successful in increasing yield. Coincidentally we have these lovely nonthornies here and I’ve seen them
root at the growing end of a cane. I hope I’m first ’cause I love your seeds!

    1. Jerry says:

You are right, I forgot I have to manually turn on commenting, thanks for getting back to me Tim. And, you of course are correct, it is called layering. I use it to get the patch to spread. I will actually snake a lateral branch in and out of the ground several times if it is long enough. Each spot you do this will make a new plant, and it can be done several times a year. I want huge blackberry brambles, which create food for us, as well as the animals.
Remind me in a note with your next order, and I will give you a great freebie!

  4. Tim says:

    Hi Jer,
Fuck yeah! I want some Lucifer’s Hammer and Faster Lebanese seeds. I’ll only be placing a free seed order ’cause of $ dwindlement in my
no-‘counts. I want some Granddaddy Purple pollen, and wth, if you have any of those landrace sativas and other spesh and choice varieties
you want to include in my fso. Has anyone told you lately you’re the balm? I dig your whole approach for being kind and considerate, etc.
gush. I’ll send you a bayntay spot in tha us magyul, ’cause no schmaht fohwn, with a note to these effects.

Hey Jerry, I’m tardy to the party, but very interested in the fast finishing Lebanese strain you mentioned. Is this offer still available?
Are the faster finishing Lebanese available? Please and thank you, Mat K.

    1. Jerry says:

Yours is only the second comment asking for them, so you are golden! Just remind me in a note with your order please.

  6. Mick says:

I’ve got a question, I am under the impression that they start to get their purple coloring when it starts getting cooler. If that’s true, do I forget about them turning purple living in the tropics?

    1. Jerry says:

Not necessarily Mick, I think some strains can and will turn purple even without getting colder. As a matter of fact with all the purple I see in this grow, these Granddaddy Purple fill the bill.

  7. Jerry says:

Always heartening to see a robust harvest.
    Beautiful plant in beautiful surroundings

    1. Jerry says:

Agreed, I love it up there, and am impressed with genetics exhibited by these plants…both male and female…

  8. Ben Duffy says:

Sure Jerry, I would love to have some of these free seeds! Then go put in a quick order, and leave me a note with that order reminding me.

    1. Jerry says:

Ok Ben, yours is the third comment asking for them, so they will come your way, just remind me.

  9. Janet Borrego says:

  11. Tim says:

Man, the cola on that one plant is freakin’ two feet long!

    1. Jerry says:

It is, I would love to see it if it hadn’t put all it’s effort into maturing seed!

  12. Robert Harrison says:

Sounds amazing. I do genetic testing for several breeders, if your needing a serious tester, holler at me.

    Those males are gorgeous!

    1. Jerry says:

I agree, I think they are about the prettiest males I have ever seen. And, they are half of their offspring’s genetics, I expect some nice plants grown from the seed.

  16. Janet Borrego says:

    1. Jerry says:
