How to Harvest Large Cannabis Crops Alone: Moving 50+ lbs as a Ghost

The One-Man Show: Moving 50+ lbs of Cannabis
Moving a few ounces is a hobby; harvesting a large cannabis crop alone is a tactical operation. When you’re a one-man show, you don’t have lookouts or a crew to help carry the load. It’s just you, your back, and the ticking clock of harvest time.
In fifty years of hauling heavy weight out of the brush, I’ve perfected the art of the scent-proof extraction. If you get sloppy here, the smell alone will give you away long before you ever get close to home.
The Dry-Bag Extraction: Silent and Scentless…The Ghost
Most folks use trash bags, but those tear on the first briar they hit and leak smell like a sieve. If you want to move a large crop of sticky colas without a soul knowing, you need to borrow a trick from the river rafters. And, another ‘trick’ is to dry the buds out close to where you grew them

The Ghost’s Extraction Protocol:
- The Heavy-Duty Dry Bag: I use high-quality, vinyl water bags—the kind boaters use to keep gear bone-dry. They are puncture-resistant and, more importantly, airtight. If air can’t get in, that skunky scent can’t get out!
- The “Butt-Crack of Dawn” Move: Timing is everything. I harvest either at the “butt-crack of dawn” (the Blue Hour) or right as the sun is dipping below the horizon. This minimizes the number of eyes on the trail…at this time of day the only folks that are out there are hunters for the most part.
- The Scent-Kill Hack: This is a veteran move. Even with a dry bag, your hands are covered in resin from the harvest. I keep a can of Lysol or a similar disinfectant spray in my pack. Once the bag is sealed, I spray the entire exterior. This kills any scent molecules I transferred while handling the buds and provides a “clean” chemical smell that masks the rest.
- Keep a Clean Scene: I also carry a bottle of rubbing alcohol, to clean and disinfect my hands after harvest. I have heard of the authorities literally looking at a suspects hands for any tell-tell signs of resin.
- Leave, Then Return: I would do this pretty much every trip. You harvest your bud, hike back to your ride, then go stash the bud in the brush near by. Then you hop in you vehicle, drive out say a mile or more, or to the main road. If you have no problem, you go back grab the harvest and head home.
Op-Sec Tip: Your vehicle is the final “trap.” Once your bud is in there…there is no way to distance yourself from it. So before you toss those bags in the back, do one final spray-down. And for heaven’s sake, don’t drive like a maniac. A “Ghost” at harvest time is the most law-abiding driver on the road.
Being a good steward of your freedom means never underestimating the power of the nose. Seal it, spray it, and move it while the world is still sleeping.
