Manifolding: The Tactical Way to Double Your Yield…Get Bigger Buds

If you’re growing in a spot where you need to keep your head down—literally—you can’t just let a plant grow like a wild Christmas tree, you need your plant to keep it’s head down as well. If it’s too tall, too obvious, it can be frankly, a waste of energy.
It makes sense to take control of the plant’s structure from day one. That’s where manifolding for bigger buds comes in. It’s not just “topping” a plant; it’s engineering a hub that distributes energy equally to every branch.
Because cannabis plants have a way of getting out of control! This technique is labor intensive however, and entails many trips to the garden.
In my 50 years of trial and error, I’ve seen plants get real big, real fast! But when you manifold, you create a “manifold” or a “mainlining” hub. You’re building a strong, woody base that can support massive colas without stakes or cages.
It’s imperative to start early—usually around the third or fourth node.
The Ghost approved of this “low-profile” tactic because it keeps the canopy flat. You can have a plant with 8 or 16 identical colas all at the same height. This means your light (or the sun) hits everything equally. No “popcorn” buds at the bottom. Everything is prime.
It’s a precarious move for a beginner because you’re literally cutting the top off your baby plant. But have faith in the genetics. If you’re running our strains many are perfect for manifolding, they have the vigor to bounce back twice as strong. I always strive for robust genetics…that is able to ‘take it!’

The Ghost Tip: Use soft garden tie or even old electrical wire to pin your branches down. Don’t use thin string—it’ll cut into the “skin” of the plant as it grows. You want to guide the plant, not choke it.
