Spring Has Sprung! Things Begin to Grow , I just got back from the 100 mile trip to my remote mountain property near Goldendale WA.

Was a stunningly beautiful spring day, in the 70’s, light wind, and not a cloud in the sky. The sky was that deep blue you see up in the mountains a bit.

The PNW is a very beautiful place to live, from the two hour drive along the always impressive Columbia river, to all the mountains you can see in the cascade range. Spring Has Sprung! Things Begin to Grow .

Above you can see Mt. Hood on the left, and Mt. Adams (I have climbed that one) on the right. What a pretty drive it is…

After the 2 hour drive I arrived at my property…curious what plants I have planted were making an appearance. Many native plants basically grow their lives and produce seed by the dog days of summer. Such are deserts, and even semi arid regions like the Goldendale area.

Here are some images of plants that can withstand cold (there will still be freezing nights there.)

The purpose of my visit was to install 21 new bird houses, sized for the endangered Western Bluebird, that nests in the area. I was hoping to be early enough for some to make use of the new boxes, and I was. They were just beginning to arrive. I installed most of the boxes right around where I am doing my planting, as I supply water for the from my well all summer. As well as the 3 ponds I have dug so far (there will be many more now that I have my mini excavator.)

It is such a joy to me to sit and watch whole families of bluebirds drink from the water I provide…that I know have been raised in one of my birdhouses.

Bluebirds are cavity nesters, and the natural woods supplies very few suitable cavities for them to nest in. If they nest in the open, their fledglings are at the mercy of all the predatory birds that live there…Blue Jays, Magpies, Crows, and Ravens…and will have little chance of reaching adulthood.

Granddaddy Purp Spring Has Sprung! Things Begin to Grow

At this point many hundreds of bluebirds have been successfully reared in my bird houses. And, these birds are very likely to return to where they were reared….and when they do, they will find the new homes I have just provided for them.

I am debating whether I will grow a cannabis garden up there this summer, but I think I will. Granddaddy Purple was such a success last year….I think I should replicate that. I just need to pick a strain that will fully finish in that environment. Hmmm, maybe some autos this year….

Do any of you have any any awesome auto-flowering cannabis seeds (ones I do not carry) you would like to trade? I only ask that they be regular seeds. not fems. I will grow them out up there and send you a large vial of them when they are done. If so, please contact me and we can discuss.

I would also love to have any plants, cuttings, and seeds of plants from your neck of the woods that would be a good fit there. At this point my whole focus is simply on diversity….food plants and trees, medicinal plants, plants to benefit the wildlife, useful plants…like bamboo, yes even bamboo….preferably the clumping variety. Again contact me.

If you like this sort of thing please leave me a comment, I would love to hear your thoughts! If your in the market for bulk cannabis seeds go here bulkweedseed.com
