Spring is beautiful at my off-grid perma-culture property!

Who doesn’t love spring!

Just got back from a visit to my property to leave money for 2 more loads of rock I am having delivered for the final prep of where I will be putting a 5th wheel trailer which will be my home for the next several years.

What a beautiful early spring day up there! I love it up there, and am looking forward to living way out there in the woods. And, I won’t be lonely, as I have lots of animals to keep me company. And if I want to interact with the human animal town is about a half hour away.

And, I will be going to town 2 or 3 times a week so you folks get your cannabis seeds in record time. Plus I love chatting with you in email.

The last frost up there is about the end of march, so the snow has just now melted, and we could even get more, a lot more, as we do some years.

Mt. Adams is Snow Covered in the Spring

On the drive up there (about 2 hours) I past great views of a few of the mountains in the cascade range, Mount Hood can be seen up the Columbia river on the way here. And, not that far from Goldendale WA is Mount Adams. I have climbed Mt Adams a few times, the last time with my two sons…fun times! Always snow covered this early in the spring.

Here is an image of Mt Adams just before you get to Goldendale

The last trip up my boys and I only made it to the false summit you can see in the photo. I have climbed many mountains in my day, the most impressive at over 14,000 ft is Mt Shasta in norther California. I have climbed it 7 or 8 times over the years. I have many mountain climbing stories I may share at some point.

Spring is Coming to My Mountains

Things are just warming up this spring, all the snow has melted at that elevation, and my seasonal creeks are running full like small rivers.

It will not be long and all the things I planted last fall will be coming up. That includes many of the Herb Seeds I am now offering for sale here on Just Cannabis Seed.

There is literally too much water in the early spring to accomplish much in the early spring in that locale. Heck in years past I have been stuck several times right in my road in the early spring. The saturated gumbo like clay up there is unforgiving, and will suck you in, then not want to let go.

That being said I still like to sneak in (being careful of getting stuck) when spring is just breaking. The trick is to go fast, do not give your rig time to begin to sink. Some early spring days are simply stunning, like the other day.

Here are some images from that visit…

The view to the south…a square miles big ranch
One of my 3 ponds
Need to add another 20 bird houses soon
I think this gives some of the birds easy full days
One of two creeks that run through
The deer have found this salt lick

Why I Want a Pizza Oven

I am going to be all about off grid ans sustainable up there. And have lots of plans in that respect, One thing I am going to definitely build is a pizza oven. Kinda like the one pictured below…

I may have already discussed this a bit, but am going to repeat myself, I think this is as cool AF!

The main difference is mine will be rectangular, not domed like this one. I know you may be thinking why would you want a pizza oven?? Gonna live on pizza??

Well here is the thing, I was thinking about a solar oven, some why I could cook food and not use any electricity, or other power/heat source like propane. But that is kinda reliant on bight sunny days, and enough hours of sun to cook whatever it is you are cooking.

Then I saw one of these pizza ovens, and learned how they are used extensively in poorer regions of the world to pretty much do all their baking. You can build a fire (I have unlimited wood) in one, let the fire burn hot for a few hours, which heats the mass of the oven, then you can literally take the fire and all the ash out, and have an oven you can bake in for several hours. One just needs to make a door for the over to hold the heat in.

These oven are used all over the world to bake bread, cakes, ect, and to make soups, stews, roasts, ect. anything you can do with an oven.

I can go to work in the morning, build a fire in the oven, stock it up with wood a few times, put in dinner, close the door, and a few hours later dinner is served. How cool is that!

Game Cam Videos

I get my sim cards from my game cams every trip up to see what has been going on. I have not really seen a human visitor in quite some time that I did not know.

But I do see critters, lots of them! I am going to share a few of the most recent videos….you can see more game cam vids on my youtube channel.

Conclusion

Spring is simply beautiful everywhere, and maybe a bit earlier at higher elevations, as everything…plants, animals, insects, ect have to get with it as the season is short. It was a warm day (one of the first) and I saw a butterfly who was itching to carry on with it’s life. I love spring!

Sorry I have been slacking a bit on this subject, and have had several people ask when I would do an update. So here it is…enjoy, and leave me a comment, I would love to hear from you!
