Had a productive trip up to my property. Got to install My New Out-House!

I have been wanting to get an outhouse built for some time now, and was finally able to accomplish that, with the help of my son. Watch the video to see my new out-house.

My new out-house is built out of 3/4 inch plywood, and should withstand the test of time.

As usual I also have to clean all my water filters (there is some minerals in my well water) so the drip irrigation will continue for all the plants I have introduced.

I am impressed with how many of the plants are thriving! I would say at least 95% are loving life up there. Some of my trees will grow over 4 ft in only their first full summer. They should be 20-30 feet tall in only a few years.

The deer are beginning to take a liking to many of the plants I have growing, I may have to attempt to keep them off of them. I will likely build a brush fence around them, as that seems to work as good as anything else I have tried. I have all the brush from the natural forest trees I have been falling to create a fire break. There is plenty to see besides my new out-house!

I am growing out some Granddaddy Purple Cannabis there this year. It seems cannabis loves it there as well. I got a few big impressive males, and a couple beautiful females.

I will also share some random images I took while there…

All the native flowers are about done in that country, but not those I have planted. The native pollinators are sure enjoying themselves. Every year I will plant more, and more flowers, and many will either be perennials, or propagate from seed.

My little area of the woods will become an oasis of goodness for all of natures creatures….a dream of mine for about as long as I can remember.

I am a bit surprised, but it looks like I can grow most vegetables there as well. So at some point I will have a large vegetable garden as well. For most of my life I have grow big gardens, some of which I realized people would purposely drive over just to look at them.

My New Out-House

I once had someone try to steal a 200 lb Big Max pumpkin I had grown….they only got 100 ft with it before giving up as it was apparently just too heavy.

I also got up on a tall ladder I have and was able to move the bird feeder a bit farther out on the limb in an effort to thwart the squirrels from devouring the whole game block in a week.

As I was up to nearly the top of this tall ladder, and struggling to move the rope the bird feeder is suspended with farther out on the limb, I realized this is why women live longer then men….

Needless to say I did not fall have have to live through the sudden stop. I am still pretty spry for 71 years of age.

I realized the camera holding outriggers on the feeder needed to go, as the squirrels would use them to make their leap to the feeder.

I am curious if they will be able to make the nearly 5 foot jump to the feeder now.

My New Out-House

Time will tell. I plan another trip up there 10/7/23 to continue to clear my firebreak, and to drag some brush to see if I can keep the deer off some trees, which would give them a chance to become established.

I would also like to touch base with you guys about plants from your neck of the woods that might be a good fit up on my property. I have propagated from seed some eastern species of plants to introduce next year, here they are…

I will be potting these in the spring (they can all be bare root planted then), letting them become established in their pots, then planting them all at my property.

I bought these seeds from a fellow in I believe it was Tennessee, and had a dismal germination rate (don’t you hate that!) but did get these to grow after months of stratification.

I know many of you have plants I would love to grow near your homes, I would love to have seeds of just about anything that could thrive on my land, and produce food for me or animals. Also interested in any medicinal plants as well. I would be willing to trade cannabis seeds for them….just contact me in an email so we can discuss.

Thanks for reading, and please leave me a comment, I would love to hear your thoughts about my new out-house or anything else I have going on at the permaculture farm! Hey ya ! I’ve been on a similar path but a lot smaller with my property. I live in north Georgia and he have long growing seasons. Have you ever tried growing jute? It has a few names but I found it being called Egyptian spinach. Very good stuff ! It grows well in poor soil and does good lined with wood chips to hold moisture in. Put it in a spot that it can spread because one plant produces a lot of seed pods and about a hundred seeds per pod! If you’re interested in a few seed pods give me a holler ! I have plenty !

I love that your still out and about and able to do these things at the young age of 71!! Congrats to you good sir! Even tho I haven’t bought any of your seeds yet, I hope too in the future, or maybe we can do some bean swapping sometime. I’m in Oklahoma and I’m not sure what we would have that you don’t already have available to you in your neck of the woods.
    Thanks for your hard work!
