Cannabis Seeds

New Granddaddy Purple Cannabis Seeds

I had some more Granddaddy Purple cannabis seeds from another source, and have decided to grow them out up on my mountain property, you can read about on My Permaculture Food-Forest pages.

The plants are up, and looking good, although life up in the mountains can be difficult for cannabis at times.

Here is an image of them from yesterday…7/6/23….

That is a sycamore tree to the right.

You may have seen me say you can look at a cannabis plant and tell if it is hungry or thirsty? These are a good example of that. You can see the leaves are pointed up? And, they are firm, without any wilting? That tells me they are not particularly thirsty. My drip irrigation is doing it’s job up there.

Now look at the color of the plants, see how they are all a light green, and not the dark green you usually see cannabis exhibit? You can also see the lower leaves are much lighter green? (while this is common later in life, when the plant is young it is an indication of nitrogen deficiency) They are hungry for nitrogen, the main nutrient that gives them that dark green color. What to do? Feed them of course, with a fert that will supply some of that nitrogen they are asking for.

I gave them a good dose, and expect them to that dark green well fed color the next time I go up….as long as there are no other issues affecting them and their nutrient uptake, such as PH, or any other issues like that. I have had the soil they are growing in tested, and know it is good, and really only lacks nitrogen.

You can also see that stems of several of these plants are a dark purple, I am hoping that is a prerequisite of big beautiful purple buds at harvest! I mean the strain is called Granddaddy Purple after all…

You might already be able to see all the plants you can see there are female. A little tough to see at this point, but they are. This brings up another problem that is common in this day and age when trying to produce cannabis seeds. You all love this problem….me, not so much. The problem is getting seeds that are suppose to be regular seed (will produce both male and female plants) and they end up being feminized! I hate that! You go to the trouble of growing them out, and cannot make seed, unless you have another male plant, or pollen around.

I looked at these, and thought I may have that problem, looked a bit closer, and low and behold…look what I found hiding amongst the girls…

Yep, there is a little male plant in the mix. He is not very big, but looks healthy, and will seed the whole lot. I generally would cull any male that was not impressive, if I had another that was. In this case he is all I got!

The fact that he is small and unimpressive does not necessarily mean his genetics are substandard, it could simply be the environment, and that he got a late start and is shaded by all his girl friends.

I will gladly let him have his fun and see how his offspring turn out.

Thanks for reading, and if you have not noticed I have one heck of a sale going on!

Update…7/27/23…The Grandaddy Purp is coming along up on my property. Here is an image of them today….

I love all your seeds. The only time I had problems with germination was my own fault. I live in the desert and we are on day 26 or 28 of triple digit heat and at least 10 more on the way. My sugar haze are only about 6 weeks old and over 5 feet tall already. You are my only source for seeds from now on. The autos I have grown out have been impressive. The best medicine. My new cana oil was so strong I had to cut my cookie in half. (Lol not your fault either.) Strong is great. I can use less and it will last longer. I cant wait to buy some of those grandaddy purples. I killed the last ones with the heat. Lesson learned start them inside then move them gradually outside, like l did with my tomatoes and peppers.

Thanks for your comment Janet! Makes my day to have happy customers, as that is my ultimate goal! 6 weeks, and 5 ft! You are going to have some monsters! I too have moved plants out under the sun to quickly and lost them, now I put them in mostly shade for a few days first.
These Granddaddies are looking good, they will not get quite as big up there, but should produce some awesome seeds.
