Just a quick update this time. Squirrels Help Themselves!
Mostly to give you guys an update on the bear activity.
I cut the bird feeder off the post, and hung it in a tree. I thought for sure the bear would climb the tree and try to get another big meal. When I stopped by there for just a bit (on my way to a family reunion) to clean my water filters. I see the game block was completely gone…AH HA I thought, the bear was able to get to it yet again.
I looked closely at the tree, but saw no evidence of the bear having climbed it??
I then see there are many videos on my cameras…I had two pointed at the bird feeder to be sure to record the bears antics.
I was excited to get home and see just what the bear had done.
I looked at all the videos (over 300) and low and behold the bear had not even visited, the game block was completely consumed by birds and squirrels…mostly squirrels hauling it off for their winter stores.
Squirrels Help Themselves, the squirrels are getting to it too easily, so my plan now is to move the feeder support rope even farther out on that limb, and hopefully make it more difficult for the squirrels to access.
I will be going back up there soon, and will bring two more game blocks, will be interesting to see if I can deter the squirrels.
I have seen turkeys on my property before, but usually just a single hen, which I assume is nesting near by. Here is a video of her family, and a few friends from the other day.
You can also see my Jerusalem Artichokes have been eaten off, some of them when eaten off rather high. Too high for a deer, so I would imagine the elk have been back, although I have not seen them on any of my cameras.
For those of you who are interested enough to read my writings on this subject, I would like to ask a favor.
I am interested in any seeds, cuttings, or plants that are edible (for humans or animals), medicinal, pollinators, or would be good additions in a food forest for any reason. I will gladly trade cannabis seeds for them, or seeds I will collect this year. If you are interested in becoming involved in my food forest in this way…contact me…I would love to hear from you!

Great! But why not feed the squirrels? NICE place you have there. Is very beautiful area!
They haul off a whole bird block in just a week or so. They cost 20 dollars each, and last the birds many months. I am also growing a ton of walnut trees, both English and Black, as well as Mulberries, and other trees and shrubs that will feed them.
