Signs Your Grow Site Has Been Found

Hmmm, Someone Has Been Here!
There is no feeling in the world quite like that cold shiver down your spine when you approach your secret spot and something just feels… off. You know another human has been there.
In my many years of playing hide-and-seek in the hills, I’ve learned that the most important tool you have isn’t your shovel or your nutrients—it’s your intuition. If your gut tells you to walk away, you listen. No harvest is worth your freedom. But sometimes, the signs aren’t just a “feeling”; they are written right there in front of me.
Don’t Walk Into a Trap: How to Know You’ve Been Found…The Ghost
If you suspect someone has been sniffing around your spot, you need to look at the ground. When I am in the woods I am always looking at any tracks that are there.
Sometimes whoever it was is trying to be stealthy, and in those instances you might only see just part of a track, or just where they flattened the grass. Then if you see that you begin looking even more carefully.
Usually however, people act like no one will see their tracks…no worries at all about leaving them. I have followed very obvious tracks before right to the guys grow.
The Ghost’s Tactical Red Flags:
- The “Tactical” Footprint: This is the big one. Most civilians wear hiking boots or sneakers with varied tread. But if you see the tracks of five or ten people all wearing the same aggressive, heavy-duty tactical lug pattern—pay attention. Cops and task forces almost always wear agency-issued tactical boots. If you see a “militia” of identical boot prints where you park or near your trail, don’t even check the plants. Just turn around and leave. Oh, and these guys leave lots of tracks.
- The “Know Your Trail” Tell: When I walk to a site, I am careful to leave as little trail as possible, and I know what my trail looks like now, and what it will look like in a week. When I come back I pay close attention to any difference I can see. See something suspicious you become hyper observant.
- The “Moved” Marker: I like to place a small branch, or two across the trail about 3 feet high. Any animals will go under it, any humans will not. That is one sure way to tell a human trail from an animal trail.
- The “Eye in the Sky”: Keep your ears open. Although at some point if they are going to still do eradication operations they will use drones. They are not there yet. The eye in the sky started out with small planes flying high so they could see large swaths of land. They looked for large grows, easy to see from way up there. Then they began to use Hueys….very loud and very easy to hear. They got better at spotting grows, but still missed most. They would ‘pin’ the location of the grow, then guys on the ground would try ti find it. Then they started to use smaller helicopters of all different kinds that they would rent. And they began to use infrared. This was a game changer for them, they finally got so good at spotting plants they would not miss even one! And, they would just repel down right into the grow.
Op-Sec Tip: If you find these signs, do not go to the your plants except perhaps in the dead of night. If they have been there, and left the plants your grow is likely surveilled.
The forest is big, and seeds are cheap. Your freedom is priceless. Stay a Ghost.
