DIY Nitrogen Boost: Using Urine to Fertilize Cannabis Plants

Can You Feed Cannabis Plants Urine?
Jerry the Ghost here. If you’re deep in the woods and your plants are looking a little pale or yellow during the vegetative stage, you don’t need to hike back to the truck for a bottle of expensive liquid nutrients. You’ve actually got the perfect high-nitrogen fertilizer on you at all times….;o)
I know, it sounds a bit “backwoods,” but human urine is packed with urea—a form of nitrogen that cannabis plants absolutely crave when they are building a big, leafy bud supporting framework.
Free Fertilizer on Tap: The Ghost’s Emergency Nitrogen Trick
In all my fifty-plus years of growing, I’ve only had deer and elk nibble on my ladies a handful of times, but the added bonus of using this method is the scent. Human urine acts as a natural deterrent for critters. It sends a message that a human predator is in the area, keeping those four-legged leaf-eaters at a distance from your hard work.
The Ghost’s Tactical Mixing Guide:
- The Ratio: Never, and I mean never, go direct-to-soil (unless you are way out on the drip zone of the plant). It’s too concentrated and will burn your roots fast. The magic number is a 10:1 ratio (ten parts water to one part urine). I will generally just let go into a 5 gal bucket of water….
- The Application: Use this as a soil drench around the base of the plant, not a foliar spray. Your plants will soak it up eagerly.
- Op-Sec Tip: You want to feed the plants, and also deter deer, elk, or other critters that may take an interest in your plantings.
- Timing: Only use mostly during the “veg” stage. Once your ladies start to flower and stack those buds, they need less nitrogen and more phosphorus/potassium.
It’s the ultimate guerrilla hack—it’s free, it’s effective, and it’s one less heavy bottle you have to pack into your secret spot.
So stay hydrated ;o)….keep your ratios right, and watch those plants turn a deep, healthy green from your urine.
