The Truth about Landrace and Heirloom Cannabis Seeds
There is a lot of “pollen-chucker” jargon floating around the internet these days, and frankly, it’s detrimental to the history of this plant.
People use the terms “Landrace” and “Heirloom” like they’re interchangeable. They aren’t. Not by a long shot.
If you’re looking for landrace heirloom cannabis seeds, you need to understand the difference.
A Landrace is a pure, wild-type plant that has evolved in a specific geography for centuries without human interference. Think of the high-altitude plants in the Hindu Kush or the coastal Sativas of Thailand. They are rugged. They are adapted. And they are the foundation of everything we grow today.
An Heirloom, on the other hand, is a variety that has been taken out of its home and “curated” by humans in a different environment for decades. I’ve been maintaining some of these lines myself. They have the “Ghost” seal of approval because they’ve been stabilized for local conditions while keeping that old-school vigor.
It is imperative that we preserve these landrace cannabis seeds before they are lost to the sea of generic, cookie-cutter hybrids. When you grow these, you aren’t just growing a plant; you’re growing history. You’re tasting the same terpenes that a grower in the 1970s experienced.
Don’t settle for “modern” weed that all smells like candy and cardboard. Go back to the roots. Lets get a bit…’old school.’
The Ghost Tip: Landrace strains often have much longer flowering times than hybrids. Be patient. If you chop a 14-week Sativa at week 9 because you’re impatient, you’ve wasted the entire potential of the genetics.
Hey growers! Do you prefer the raw power of a Landrace or the stability of an Heirloom? Let’s talk about it over at the JCS Growers Community forum.
