Wind Tested Rugged Genetics Grown in Simcoe Mountain Hugelkultur Beds

This years cannabis seed grow up at my property in the Simcoe Mountains of central Washington state…Stony Oasis Farms had to deal with the elements! And up in those mountains there seems to be alot of ‘elements!’

And the worst of which is the wind! This video shows a breezy day…but man-o-man it can blow alot harder than that.

I learned something about cannabis plants and wind this year. When you give cannabis alot of nitrogen (my hugelulktur bed was a bit rich!) the plants can grow incredibly fast…but when they do that their structure, their stems, that support the plant can be hollow, and weak.

I was planning on growing these plants throughout their lives without any kind of support…going to show how tough my genetics are…but, I had to give in just a bit and give them some support…in the form of a short waddle fence, and a few T posts and rope on the windward side.

Although I had several of the lower limbs break at the knuckle in those strong winds, and I fixed a few of them…I finally just let them be. The fact of the matter is these plants are growing down in a ditch basically, and the sides of that ditch is what supported those broken lower branches. In other words the broken branches did not really affect the plant, they stayed attached, and did not miss a beat!

So there ya go…the winds can be brutal, but cannabis plants are tough, and they can find a way to survive!
