Low-Input Outdoor Seed Grow: Tough Cannabis Plants Withstand Harsh Conditions

Well here we are at the 10th of August, and the living super soil, dryland hugelkultur cannabis grow is not disappointing! Good lord…these plants are going nuts!

As I have said cannabis plants grow faster, the bigger they get. You can kind of picture what these plants root system looks like…Just imagine what you see above ground is about as big as the root system they have below ground. And the bigger the root system the faster the plants will grow. I am thinking these plants are growing and inch or two every single day.

Supporting Huge Cannabis Plants

I started this grow with the thought that I would not support these plants and show how tough my genetics are. Well, I have to admit that was kinda a mistake with this grow.

One is always learning when growing cannabis….even after 50 years of being the Ghost. I realized I made a mistake on this grow. I made my hugelkultur bed, filled it with super soil, planted my 2 month old plants I started in the deep tree pots…which I had topped just once. And thought I would grow them without any support at all.

In hind sight I now realize that was a mistake…

Fact of the matter is when you top a cannabis plant once it will develop two growing main stems…and this means that once the plants get big, they will have a huge knuckle right where you topped them within a foot or two of the ground. This effectively weakens the entire plant, and gives it a weak spot that it can split apart at…especially with the strong mountain winds up there in the Simcoe mountains.

And, that is just a gentle breeze up there! These plants sometimes get really whipped around. I gave them a bit of support on the back side so the wind cannot lay them completely over, and I built the small waddle fence in the front to break up a bit of that wind.

Thing is I am growing seed for you guys in this grow, and even a ‘broken’ plant can produce a large number of seeds. With the possible changes coming in November as far as cannabis seed sales go I plan to offer these F1’s at a steep discount so my customers can stock up on high quality genetics for cheap! I want to hook everyone up with a nice seed stash!
